What Makes us Smiths News?

“There’s just something about Smiths News and you’ve got to experience it”.

Everyone In

Ensuring everyone can thrive here.

It is our colleagues who make Smiths News what it is – our people are at the heart of everything we do. We want to make sure that everyone feels welcome, valued, and supported every day at work.

Here, voices lead to change. Here, we’re as good as our word. Our various network groups take part in driving positive change through their contributions and passion for championing the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda. They also ensure everyone can thrive here whilst also playing a supportive role through sharing stories ,creating resources and holding open and inclusive space for discussion. We’re as good as our word.

Our Network Groups

Minds Matter promote awareness & education about mental wellbeing including how to support yourself & others. They are committed to changing the perception of mental wellbeing and to create an environment where colleagues feel secure reaching out for support.

Woman In News was set up by colleagues for colleagues. Women in News (also known as WIN) host monthly meetings and help inform and consult on relevant company policies and guidelines. They also mentor and coach women looking to progress in their careers.

Pride News Network Our Pride members celebrate, protect, and nurture our LGBTQ+ community, while fostering a safe, friendly and inclusive workplace for all. They aim to provide education, enhance representation, and serve as a unified voice for change.

Beyond Barriers champion accessibility and understanding, through amplifying the voices of all colleagues. They come together as a supportive community, to raise awareness and to be a catalyst for positive change and support Smiths News to become a Disability and Carer confident employer, where every colleague can fulfil their potential.

At Smiths News, we celebrate ethnic diversity and want to ensure all colleagues feel seen, supported, and can achieve their full potential. RISE, which stands for Race, Identity, Support, Empowerment, is our network promoting equal opportunities and representation for people of colour at Smiths News. The RISE network creates spaces for open conversations that challenge, educate, and inspire. They are dedicated to creating a workplace where every voice is heard, every talent is nurtured, and every colleague thrives.

Everyone In is our overarching forum that connects network leads and colleagues from key locations and different shift patterns. It’s a space to share insights, collaborate, and plan for the future.

We’re committed to ensuring that every colleague has a voice and is represented. Everyone In feeds directly into the Sustainability Board, ensuring visibility and that the work of our networks receives the resources and support needed to succeed. At Smiths News, we genuinely want to hear what our colleagues have to say. That’s why we run regular What Matters surveys.

In line with our values of being open and trusted, we welcome honest feedback—not just on what’s working well, but also on what we need to improve. We use the insights from these surveys to make meaningful, positive changes to the workplace, ensuring all colleagues are treated fairly.
