Employees complete the Three Peaks Challenge for charity

Colleagues from Smiths News, the UK’s leading newspaper and magazine wholesaler based at Kembrey Park have recently completed the National Three Peaks challenge.

Smiths News staff complete the Three Peaks Challenge

The Three Peaks Challenge involves walking up the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. It's pretty difficult to do as sleep deprivation plays a part, affecting some people more than others.
The group of employees, who call themselves ‘The Magnificent Seven’, took part in the event to raise money for CLIC Sargent, a charity which is close to their hearts, as explained by Andrew Caple, Business Systems Manager, Smiths News:
“We decided to fundraise for CLIC Sargent because of Joshua, a 4 year old boy who is a close family friend of a colleague of mine, and is currently undergoing treatment for a very rare and aggressive form of cancer.”
“The money we raise will go towards Joshua’s fund, as they are hoping to raise £12,000 which would pay for a family room at one of CLIC Sargent’s ‘Home from Home’s’ for a year. CLIC Sargent has eight Homes from Home in the UK and are located within a 10 minute walk of the principle treatment centres. Staying in a Home from Home will allow Joshua’s family to be with him while he is undergoing treatment.”

Talking about his experience of ‘climbing the hills’, Andrew said:
“We started walking up Ben Nevis at 4:30pm on Saturday and the last of our team came down from Snowdon at 7:30pm on Sunday.”
“It was a tough challenge. The weather slowed us down and affected the driving too. However, we’ve raised £2,870 for Joshua’s fund. We’re delighted with this amount and would like to thank everyone who has donated and supported us.”
Olivia Pumphrey, Fundraising Coordinator. CLIC Sargent, commented on the team’s achievement:
“We are thankful for the support from the team at Smiths News. The money raised for CLIC Sargent will help us fund our core work providing practical and emotional support to children and young people with cancer and their families.”
