Smiths News secures agreement with News International
Smiths News is pleased to announce it has successfully negotiated a new agreement with leading newspaper publisher News International.
The agreement is in two parts: This October, News International will close its ‘Direct to Retail’ operation outside of London. Distribution in these areas will pass to Smiths News, meaning that retailers will now receive all newspaper supplies from one source.
Starting July 2014 Smiths News will also take on those territories in Devon and Cornwall, currently served by the independent news wholesaler, Dash Ltd. As a result of the agreement a further 5600 retailers will move to having a single supplier for newspapers, reducing their costs and improving the simplicity and profitability of the category.
Jonathan Bunting, Managing Director, commented:
"This is a clear endorsement of our leading service and recognition that Smiths News provides a highly efficient route to market. It is good news for retailers too. The agreement gives us greater certainty on the future of our network, allowing us to plan investments that will further improve service for our customers."
