Recruitment Coordinator

I have been on a journey with Smith News, working for them twice. Originally, I joined in their ancillary business, Instore as a Field Performance Leader covering South Wales, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. I returned after Covid as a Merchandiser in my local area and expressed an interest in taking on more hours. That’s when I heard about a part-time secondment in recruitment, helping to recruit Merchandisers for Instore in which my manager whole heartedly supported me.

I ended up doing that role for two years, and when a full-time position came up in recruitment, I went for it. I’m now a Recruitment Coordinator for Smiths News, responsible for recruiting Warehouse Operatives and Operations Team Leaders.

My day-to-day responsibilities include setting up and advertising vacancies, screening applicants for suitability, arranging interviews, and managing right-to-work checks to support offers of employment. I oversee the entire recruitment process from start to finish and work closely with hiring managers to support them through onboarding and ensure a smooth transition for new starters.

My favourite thing about working for Smiths News is without a doubt the people. There is an incredible support system at every level across the business. My immediate and wider team are the friendliest bunch and are always there if you need them.
Outside of work, I have two sons and two dogs that take up a lot of my time. However, I always make time for my friends and have a great social life. I love to travel when I get the opportunity and love to binge crime series, and yes, I love wine too!
If I could give my younger self any advice it would be to believe in myself and put myself forward for things that might feel uncomfortable, as they will make me grow as a person
