Smiths News Recycle
Our vision for Smiths News Recycle is to be one of the UK’s leading recycling partners, delivering value for customers through cost efficiency, unrivalled service delivery and industry leading compliance. Smiths News Recycle is our recycling service designed to provide a cost-effective, convenient service to our current retailers and beyond.
Launched in 2022, we’ve proudly grown to serve over 5,000 Smiths News customers. and are excited to bring this scheme further afield to businesses over the UK in 2025.
Previously, it was only Smiths News retailers who could have their recycling collected 7 days a week, via our logistics team.
However, to support the Simpler Legislation changes, we now offer a daily collection of dry mixed recycling (DMR), with early morning pick up and a no-fuss process for customers to follow. It’s designed to help customers save time and money and free up space. Independent customers can opt for a fixed fee or ‘pay as you go’ contract.

Print Media
Delivering newspapers and magazines to thousands of communities across the UK. This core service is characterised by time-sensitive and high-density deliveries, a diverse customer base, our ability to manage a complex and fast-moving product range and a range of add-on services such as returns processing and demand forecasting.
Smiths News has long-term contracts with all major UK publishers and operates in defined territories across England and Wales. Newspapers are distributed from 34 depots where supplies arrive early in the morning and are then picked, packed and delivered within only a few hours. The previous day’s unsold papers are collected at the same time, scanned for crediting and sorted for recycling. Magazines are packed and processed at six 3 regional hubs.
Supplies arrive during the day before being shipped to spoke depots ready for distribution with that night’s newspapers. Unsold magazine copies are collected and processed as soon as new editions are put on sale, giving publishers an immediate overview of sales and demand across the retail network.
